SynPlexity Welcomes Doug Fowler as Consultant
Sep 16, 2025
We’re pleased to announce that Dr. Doug Fowler (University of Washington, Genome Sciences) has joined SynPlexity as a consulting scientist, bringing his deep expertise in high-throughput screening (HTS), protein engineering, and functional genomics.
Doug is widely recognized as a pioneer in deep mutational scanning (DMS), an approach he helped establish that uses large-scale variant libraries and sequencing to map the functional impact of thousands of mutations in parallel. His group’s 2010 paper in Nature Methods was a landmark in demonstrating how DMS could move from concept to practical tool, and his subsequent work has continued to push the boundaries of scale, accuracy, and application.
His lab has since applied HTS approaches across a wide range of problems, from understanding protein folding and stability to mapping the genotype–phenotype relationship at an unprecedented resolution. These methods have become foundational across academia and industry, setting new standards for how we generate and interpret information-rich datasets.
At SynPlexity, our mission is to accelerate biology by delivering multiplex gene libraries at scale. Doug’s perspective will help us strengthen that mission, ensuring our platform is tuned to the most demanding HTS applications and delivering the data density that today’s research requires.
By aligning world-class gene synthesis capabilities with world-class expertise in HTS we’re enabling customers to explore biology faster, deeper, and with more precision.
We’re excited to collaborate with Doug and look forward to sharing more as this partnership unfolds.
